A Spyder & Viking Bag Met...

Updated: Jun 14, 2023

JUNE 2023 - We love our bags and we have a LOT of bags. When we travel, one of the ways we try to keep things organized and orderly is using bags. Our bags each serve a specific purpose and must withstand our use and abuse. We are very excited to announce we are working with Viking Bags to try out one of their bags for motorcycles.

We have had the Viking Economy Line Medium Sissy Bar Bag since April 24, 2023.

Sadly, we had some personal setbacks that changed our travel plans, so we did not get to use it immediately. It is highly recommended that you visit the links provided within this article to see what the retailer says about the bag. There you will also find all of the official size specifications and accessories that come with the bag. Once we got our feet back under us, we were very eager to put this bag to use.

The first test was to see what we could load in it. It passed our first test... it fits a LOT of stuff. The larger bag held a full face modular helmet, a pair of tennis shoes, and a full cover for a 2021 Spyder. The top 'duffel' bag was perfect for a rain suit, smaller travel cover for a 2021 Spyder, a furry seat cover for long rides and the included rain cover the the Viking bags.

The first weekend ride was about 120 miles and we did not need much 'stuff' so we opted to leave behind the duffel bag and we loaned the larger one to a friend to carry for the day on his Vulcan.

Our next test was just more of a joy ride testing motorcycles at our local Indian dealer. We loaded the bags as if we were going to be traveling with full face modular helmet, extra shoes, rain covers, rain gear and small essentials. We attached it to our our 2021 Sea to Sky Spyder RT. There's a short video going on our YouTube channel soon about the setup on the Spyder as it is a little different than installing on a sissy bar on a 'normal' motorcycle. We were worried it would not fit, but it was a perfect fit on the back seat.

Now, many of you Spyder riders are probably wondering, "why in the world would I need this bag on my spyder that already has 4 storage compartments?". You may be right. We have the trailer to pull behind the Spyder but we are planning a "first long ride" and we are not eager to take the trailer along for the first time. We also want to see if we can manage without the extra 400lbs that trailer can give us to carry. Logically, as many know, the Sea to Sky came with a 3-piece luggage set that fits in the side compartments and frunk. Ideally, those will hold clothes for the upcoming 3-day trip. Where will rain gear, cover for Spyder and extra helmet go? That is where the Viking Economy Line Medium Sissy Bar Bag comes in. Packed in there are those items that won't fit in the luggage, freeing up the rear trunk of the Spyder for spare riding jacket, camera equipment, a small cooler, snacks and various other valuables that may be needed during the ride.

On Memorial Day, we did about 180 miles and it was attached to Spyder again. We did the twisty roads of the Daniel Boone National Forest and Red River Gorge in Kentucky and the bags never moved. Easy access to gear when needed. A perfect fit to the Spyder even though they were made for a traditional motorcycle sissy bar.
